"It’s really frustrating, annoying, infuriating and more so demotivating to see people who really can’t appreciate others’ hard work and feels the need to vandalize it.
Hulhumale Development Corporation (HDC) and Blak commissioned two of my friends to make a mural on a 78feet wall (each!) for the Youfest 2017 which was supposed to be on 17th that got delayed to 24 November 2017. After getting everything required they finally got started on Friday and a group of us helped them over the course of the week with sleepless nights just to help them finish the respective murals in time for the festival. It was exhausting yet so rewarding to see the finished murals. People walking by stopped and gave compliments and kids from the block even came to keep company and appreciate it.
Maisha’s mural was really intricate and beautiful and took so much effort and sleepless nights I can’t imagine how she must be feeling now. We were so tired at the end and hadn’t gotten a whole picture of the wall either and just two days later it’s sprayed over.
Yes it can be painted over, can be fixed but it really kills anyone’s motivation to do something nice for the general public because these gangs or even individuals from such groups thinks it’s funny to vandalize and that they can’t be held responsible.
Staying silent about it just gives them all the more power to keep doing whatever they want. One might just wonder how much power all these gangs actually have in the country. Just wanted to say that I hope to see the day where we can all respect and appreciate works without the need to destroy it and also let others enjoy it too. 😒"
