How can you just trust a stranger to save your loved ones life just because he has "Dr" in his name?
Hi. Take some time to read this.
Yes I must have made a few grammar mistakes. I'm sorry.
I rarely have gone to see a doctor ever since I moved here because I do not trust the doctors who practice in the Maldives. I have my reasons for it. Most of them at one point during there time here get busted for having fake certificates and flee. Also lots of people have died because of a doctors carelessness or a prescribed drug. Sometimes when you research the prescribed medicines, you might find that these are wrong and would not treat your diagnosis in anyways and worst case scenario is that it would make your illness worse. What happened today at the hospital would definitely be a good example of my reasons.
So I went to the hospital with my cousin today because she was more sick than usual. You know how we all get the common cold sometimes and we take home remedies and a few commonly used medicines, well she was allergic to those things and she wanted an alternative medicine. Anyway, so we walk up to the reception desk and turns out there was a technical problem so they didn't have an idea about who the on call doctor was or how many people are ahead of us all they said was to wait. So we were waiting. She got 121 and and it was just for 108 to go in. We were waiting for quite a long time there and finally it was our time to go in. So we went in and the doctor asked his questions and she answered them. I found it very weird on how he was interacting with her and also how he did her check up. It wasn't how normally a check up routine would be. And there was a really big gap of silence where he was writing down her symptoms and diagnosis. She told him about her allergies. Normally you would think a doctor would say " Okay, look you have this disease and that's why you are sick "
But what he said was "don't worry these medicines will work out fine for you" like where is the freaking diagnosis doctor, am I supposed to find that out on my own?.
I wanted to say a lot of things at him but I didn't. And then after this we went to the pharmacy to get her meds and this so called doctor had prescribed the medicine she was allergic to.
Like how many times does she have to tell you man? Are you that stupid or have any idea what you are doing at your job?
I got really frustrated. We were waiting there for such a long and this is what we get? So I went back and waited again in front of his door and as soon as the patient inside left I went in and told him about what has happened and what he said next just frustrated us even more. He said that if you've already taken it from the pharmacy then you should have the medicine regardless of you are allergic to it. As I stormed out of the room I said as loud as I can that he doesn't know what he is doing and it would have been better to stay at home than go to a doctor like him. This incident made me think a lot about the medical growth in the Maldives.
There are hospitals and clinics in most of the islands and cities but these places don't have the required resources a hospital should have. We have pharmacies but they don't have the medicines we require most of the time. If you don't give a person the right medical attention they need at the right time they will die but think about it if all the hospitals had the facilities and resources needed so many lives could be saved. If every educated individual knew first-aid they would help save a life at one point in their life. How can you just trust a stranger to save your loved ones life just because he has "Dr" in his name?. There are certain things we should all be aware of and spreading awareness of. I think this is one of them.
